What I do

Light/medium copyediting

Light copyediting corrects spelling, grammar, punctuation, consistency, clarity, and word usage errors.

If you think your project needs more than that, you may want a medium copyedit. This also flags areas that are awkward, redundant, or unnecessarily wordy.

Copyediting does not include rewriting, rewording, structural editing, or development of ideas and plots.

Format: Microsoft Word document or Google document.

Proofreading

Proofreading is a final check for typos, formatting issues, and any errors missed during the copyedit. It's the last edit before your project is finished and should only be done after copyediting.

I do not recommend using the same editor to both proofread and copyedit your work, because a fresh pair of eyes may be sharpened to mistakes that slipped through the first round.

Format: Microsoft Word document, Google document, or physical proof. I also accept PDFs for documents of 20 pages or less.

I offer free sample edits of 1,500 words.

Every edit or proofread includes at least two passes (word-by-word reading). A copyedit also includes one last pass after you’ve made your revisions.

Rates

Because not all edits are the same, my rates vary with each project. Please reach out with information about your project and what level of editing you are looking for. I’d love to learn more about you and your writing! If we both decide I am a good fit for you, I will look over a copy of your project to evaluate the level of editing needed and send you a quote. I ask for a 20 percent deposit when we sign the contract. I'll send you an invoice for the rest of the payment after completing the edit.

Light/medium copyediting: $0.02-$0.03 per word

Proofreading: $0.015-$0.019 per word

What does the editing process look like?

We’ll discuss your project and your expectations. I’ll do a free 1500-word sample edit so you can see my work and determine if I’m the right fit for you. After I look over your project, I’ll send you a quote and completion date.

I’ll send you a contract for the project along with an invoice for the deposit.

Once you send me your project and any style sheets you have, I’ll begin your edit!

I’ll return the edited project to you with a deadline for your revision submission. You’ll have the opportunity to accept or reject all suggestions I’ve made.

After I receive the revision, I’ll do another pass to check for errors made during revisions or missed during the edit.

I’ll send you the final invoice. After you make your payment, I’ll send you the beautifully polished project. Edit completed!
